Labor Day Weekend 2009

We had an amazing Labor Day Weekend. Moving to Arkansas has made us closer to many church history sites. So for Labor Day we decided to take advantage of that opportunity. With another family from our ward we traveled to Independence, MO. We took in many sites, Independence, Liberty, Far West and Adam Ondi Ahman. The feelings we experienced as we went to Liberty Jail and Adam Ondi Ahman we can't even describe. It is truly amazing to see these areas where the church was so new. How grateful we were to experience it.

Independence, MO visitor center

This is the Community of Christ Temple, known before as RLDS. Cuyler and Raymond went into their museum. It has a lot of Joseph Smith's things and early church memorabilia.

Independence,MO LDS visitor center. This is a replica of a cabin that would have been built by the saints as they came to Independence. Often 10 families would reside in one cabin.

It is hard to see, but behind the children is the Liberty Jail with wax figures of Joseph, Hyrum and the other men that were held in this jail. There truly was an amazing spirit there. Just knowing what was written, and who stood on the floor.

Far West corner stones for the temple. One thing that amazed me is that Joseph and Hyrum and so many early saints walked these lands.

Adam Ondi Ahman

We decided to drive around a cemetery and just happened upon this head stone. Little did we know who he was.

You can't go to Kansas City and not at least drive by the Chiefs and Royals stadiums.

On our way home we stopped at where they make Precious Moments. They have a beautiful chapel there that the artist behind Precious Moments continually adds to.

Scates Family on the grounds at the Precious Moments museum.

What an exciting trip! Can't wait until the next one. Thanks Gibby family for coming with us and having so much fun.
